Would it be possible to expect Panels to be presented as a node type (block)?
I'd like to create a page with few easy steps to create something like on this page: http://www.theonion.com/content/

mlchaei commentedyou mean outputting the latest node(s) from categories instead of single nodes?

jazzitup commentedLet's suppose that I create a custom regions and I would like to put some panels (as blocks) in that particular region. It would be much easier that way to create something more similar to theonion.com. Tell me if I'm missing something...

cbutera commentedThere are 2 reasons why I would like to see Panels as a node type rather than including 2 nodes.
1. Would allow the entire page to show up in searches rather than just half the page which might look weird.
2. Would be cleaner for access controls.
There are probably more reasons - but those are the ones that are striking for me.

onepairofpants commentedI agree. Can we please please please have panels as nodes. Right now I have different Content Types defined for every different layout I need. If panels appeared as nodes I could avoid all that. I need them to show up in views, on the front page, in rss feeds, and register in the menu system, etc. right now panels can't do that because they are not nodes. Am I right on this? What would need to be done to make this happen? I think this would make panels much more useful to many users...

donkilo commentedyes! what are the alternatives right now? i want to do the same thing - split my center column into two regions. how can i do this without a lot of coding the theme?

cbutera commentedIs this being currently worked on? Is this possible?

jazzitup commentedI suggest reading this thread: http://www.angrydonuts.com/design_chatter_for_panels_2_0
It seems that developers already have that in mind for the Panels v2 and I truely hope that Panels v2 would smoothly work in conjuction with the CCK module!
