I have just completed a fresh install of Open Atrium 2.63 to take advantage of the inherited group member notification enhancement. However, I'm still experiencing a problem when attempting to send notifications when the group's members are not also members of the Space. Here are the steps I've done:

1) Created a space
2) Created a group
3) Added users to my group
4) Added group as inherited members for my space
5) Attempted to send notification to my group

Only my Admin, an actual member of the space, received the notification. No group member received the notification. Could someone please tell me what steps I may be missing. Thank you.

Atrium will only notify members of the Group that are ALSO direct members of the space. If you need to add somebody who is not a member of the space you need to add them specifically as a user to the notification list.

Somebody was asking for a patch to add an option to notify group members who are not also direct members of the space but I don't remember the issue off the top of my head (maybe somebody can link it), but that option has not been added to Atrium.

The way Atrium is designed is that Groups are large site-wide collections of users who have ACCESS to a space via inheritance. But Notifications are designed for emailing the actual active participants of a space where you don't want to spam the entire Group list. For example, the entire company Group might have access to a project space, but you only want to notify those in the company that are directly participating in a project.

Working as designed so what we did to make this work is lock down spaces by removing most permissions at the space(s) level. Then allow management of space content through contributor groups with increased permissions. We could then allow everyone in our organization to be a member of spaces putting out organization wide notifications AND make them members of an all XXX group so the contributors can address the group when sending them. Thus, the contributors can push out organization wide notifications if they choose to do so. Which I hope they don't. I'll close this issue. Thanks for your help.
