mpotter commentedThe normal solution to this is to create a top-level public space for the site and then set that node to be the home page of the site. Then you can customize it and use OA widgets as normal.

cgove commentedThanks for the tip! I like the flexibility. One problem I see with this is I don’t see an option for the "User Spaces" widget in the space. That option is available when editing the default OA homepage, not a space.

dijup tuladhar commentedAs per my solution for Recent news, I create a new views with content pan and pulled the news content there so if any space any new news it will be listed in this panel. We can control the no of news listing using views.
This option was quite easy for me to manage news coz I don't have to manage the separate news section or space.

mpotter commentedLooks like the User Spaces widget has a required user context, which isn't available on the home page. I'll add a feature request to make the user context optional and default to the current logged-in user if possible.
Till then, as mentioned in #3, remember that you can always create your own Views/widgets to do whatever you want. Widgets in OA2 are just pre-defined content pane Views.

SweetTomato commentedYou can edit or clone the Open Atrium News view and add a filter so it only grabs items from the specified sections.
Structure >Views > Open Atrium News ( Edit ) > Filter Criteria ( Add ) > Content: OpenAtrium Section (oa_section_ref) ((make sure to grab the one that isn't described as an alias right below it)) > check your sections > done!
Also, wanted to mention, I thought I could get the result of the above in the "Customize This Page" > Settings Gear menu for the Open Atrium News widget > Context Settings > Content: Open Atrium Section (oa_section_ref) dropdown. It gives the option for "this" and "none" but I was expecting all the sections to be listed in there as well. Did I misunderstand the purpose of that dropdown?

mpotter commentedThe News view is one of the older "widgets" in OA2. The way it handles Spaces and Sections is the old style of dealing with Relationships and Contextual Filters with the complex OG Membership table. Newer widgets, such as Recent Content use the newer OA2 Filters for Space and Section that allows them to be "exposed" to both the pane configuration and/or the end user.
I have a ticket to go through all of our views and update these old ones to the newer filters. That will make them more flexible. The problem is that doing this would break existing sites that use the current widget. So we also need to think about backwards compatibility and how we might "deprecate" the older widgets.
But that explains why the oa_section_ref dropdown on the News widget doesn't behave nicely like some other widgets.

SweetTomato commentedWill the News view be updated or deprecated? If updated, I'll keep it around, if deprecated, I'll try and rebuild with the Recent Content widget.
If I rebuild, I have a question about how the views settings (on the view edit page) and the view pane instance settings (when "added" to a page) interact? How does setting pager rules on my view and then setting them in the instance supposed to work? Does the instance just take precedence?
Also, I'd like to have a read more link for my news items (which i set up by adding a Content:Path field to the Recent News view and editing the body settings in the view to trim content and have a more info link. I don't want to do this to all the Recent Content instances so am hesitant to rebuild in Recent Content for news, since I use Recent Content in other sections. (Unless the read more of this item settings are going to be editable through the widget pane settings so then they won't apply to all Recent Content instances).

mpotter commentedThe Recent News will stick around. The underlying view will just be changed to reflect the correct filters. If that change causes sites to break then we will deprecate the existing one and create a new one with a slightly different name.
And yes, the settings on the Pane Configuration takes precedence over the views settings.
For the Read More, the News view is just showing the Teaser view of the nodes, so just change the template or layout for the teasers of your nodes to display the information you need.

hefox commentedIt looks like recent news now has group/section filter, is this depreciated?
