At the moment, the phone number is set to verify the data from Phone number module. It may be generalized so that the application can be used by other continents.

Unfortunately the phone module only allows this to be set at the time the field is created.

Creating a new phone field is probably the easiest way forward here. Another option would be adding the ability to modify the field after creation to that module.
