When pulling this article, http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2013/09/30/226844915/to-get-the-benefit..., two of the three images are not downloaded and saved. Instead, an empty file with a .bin extension is saved instead (looks like mimetype detection is working).

I've attached var_dump() output of the $story->image object for convenience.

It appears a typo is to blame for this bug; fallback image detection was broken. Patch attached.
