Running Drupal 6.19. I checked the box for default setting on "notification checkbox default on new user registration form" under admin->site config->notification setting. Shouldn't notifications be checked for new users? I've created a new user and nothing was checked under the notify tab when I logged in as the user.

harriska2 commentedOops, I forgot to point out that I acted as a new user and registered myself. The registration process is set to "visitors can create accounts and no administrator approval is required" - "require e-mail verification". Upon clicking on the link for verification as a "new user" I was able to change my password but the notification tab was all unchecked. As other people have noted, most users would like to know about follow up emails in threads they post to but aren't savy enough to know to check their own notify checkboxes. I'm not sure if the default check is meant as an opt out system (you have to go in and uncheck the notify). If it is, this is, for some reason, not working for me.

harriska2 commentedWell nevermind. I played with permissions and set it so that anonymous has permission and then it shows up in the register for an new account area with a checkmark in it.
