Spanish translation broken ?

Please excuse me if I haven't understood something properly. I have just installed this module on a eng/spanish bilingual site, but the Spanish translation doesn't seem to have been installed at all.

Looking at the es.po file I found the following...

#: notify.inc:27
msgid "Do you wish to receive periodic e-mails when new content is posted?"
msgstr ""
"¿Quereis recibir periódicamente correos electrónicos cuando se publique "
"nuevo contenido?"

#: notify.inc:27
msgid "Notify status"
msgstr "Estado de la notificación"

That 3rd line with a blank string looks strange to me, as does the repeated #: notify.inc:27

I haven't been able to find much documentation on how drupal translation works, so I don't know if this is a bug in the module or if my problem lies elsewhere.
