I've installed the dev version of the notify module (as recommended on the module page) and, although it works well when telling me about new comments it doesn't tell me anything about new content. Not even if I flush the email queue manually. I've tried a few tricks I read about on this discussion board but nothing works.

Should I downgrade to the previous version?

This support request is five years old and D5 is no longer maintained. Nobody else has noticed this. And the problem is not present in D6 or D7. If it is a problem. it is unlikely that anyone will fix it now.
