Any timeframe for a new release of the 6.x branch? There's been a bunch of useful bug fixes since the last release back in March 2010.

Title: New release for 6.x branch? » Nodequeue roadmap
Status: Active » Needs review

I guess I've been lazy and waited for someone to start this thread for me :) So, here's my take on the 6.x-2.10 roadmap.

Release blockers:
#742494: Smartqueue table not created

Other features that would be nice to have:
#373174: Export and import capability for nodequeue
#1074248: Add drush support to nodequeue
#593468: adding the same node more than once to a queue causes bad behavior
#213074: Usability: Permissions are confusing
#290969: Postgres compatibility
#952448: Add rules events support

The only release blocker for a 7.x-beta release is: #983024: Port Smartqueue to D7. Until that lands, we'll release 7.x-2.x-alpha2 along with 6.x-2.10 because a lot of fixes have gone into the 7.x branch as well.

My personal goal is to release 6.x-2.10 and 7.x-2.x-alpha2 on May 20th. Let's see how much of those feature requests can get in until then, shall we? :)

My own personal and general thoughts, at the end of the day you're the boss :

I'd say rolling a D6 release sooner rather than later would expand the # of sites with machine names on their queues, and make it easier to progress on #373174: Export and import capability for nodequeue by having more people able to test / review on actual setups. Exportability is the final goal behind machine names, of course, but going there in one single leap without an intermediary stable release (stable also as in 'fixed state of code you can easily refer to', as opposed to an always in-flux dev release) sounds a bit ambitious.

Also, with the latest official nodequeue D6 release more than a year ago, I'd tend to think the # of changes and bugfixes might be enough to make a release worthwhile even if it's not the-perfect-release-that-fixes-all-that-would-be-nice-to-fix.

Then again, it seems you guys have been in a commit spree right now, so maybe you still have short terms target in mind, or want to have some recent commits linger a bit in dev.

I agree with yched on the value of getting a new stable release out, so that people are using machine names. Great to see that the blocker #742494 is fixed. Most of the nice to haves seem to be a fair way out.

I agree that we should make a D6 release generally ASAP, and a D7 progress release as well, whether it's alpha2 or beta1.

I will make these releases available tonight. The D7 release will be alpha2 because of #983024: Port Smartqueue to D7.

Edit: And here they are:

Nice work, thanks amateescu!

Only minor thing I noticed when running the upgrade this morning was that I had to manually clear the menu cache, I was getting a white screen on nodequeue admin views (http://example.com/admin/content/nodequeue/1/view/2)

I don't think we need this anymore :)
