I had to add the following to my sites css to fix the issue after upgrading node form columns to 6.x-1.4

.vertical-tabs {
  margin-right: -10em;
}

This is because the box around vertical tabs goes over form elements inside the vertical tabs area, all of my vertical tabs elements are in the fototer part of the form.

-12em worked better
