I saw one other post that mentioned porting to D7, but it wasn't specifically about a D7 port, so I thought I'd create another issue here.
Despite comments being field-able in Drupal 7, I think this module is still very useful. For one, using views to display the comments presents a lot of advantages in how you can order & display the comments. Also, the fact that you can rename the "comment" type to whatever name you like is a big advantage, as one content type can have "comments", while another can have "reviews", and another can have "answers". It opens up a lot in terms of being able to customize the look and feel of your site.
So, I'd like to submit this as an official petition to port Node-Comments to D7.

crea commentedPetitions are useless in most cases. Drupal has do-ocracy which means someone has to do the job or sponsor it.
That said, I think D7 needs complete rethinking of the approach and there could be no need for the porting, but rather whole different module.

sammyman commentedI think I need this module to accomplish what I want with D7.

michelleJust wanted to note that Advanced Forum will still be wanting Node Comments in Drupal 7 as it uses it for more than just fieldable comments.
Not a petition or a demand, just a note. :) I had someone surprise me with an AF D7 port so, who knows, maybe someone will decide to do this one. If not, I'll be needing it next Fall and will port it if it hasn't been.

michelleGiven http://drupal.org/node/891276#comment-4961512 , isn't this a won't fix?

crea commentedFrom me, yes. I am just keeping this issue open because people will demand it anyway.

michelleAh, ok, gotcha. Sorry I ended up fizzling out. The switch to entities means that I don't need this for forum work anymore.

playfulwolf commentedanother subscribe...
michelleThere is no need to comment to subscribe. There is a "Follow" button to click to track an issue.
playfulwolf commentedNumber of comments is more visible than number of subscribers.
Also - I am not just following, I am also willing beta tester
Comment #16
michelle@PlayfulWolf: There are 12 people who had to open this thread to see the new comment only to find nothing more than a "subscribe" which can be done by using the follow button. If you're volunteering to be a beta tester, then say so. Saying, "I'm really interested in seeing this happen and am willing to help test it." is a whole lot less irritating than "another subscribe..."
And, in the interest of not being irritating to those other 11 people, I'm done with this tangent. Let's get back on topic.

playfulwolf commented@Michelle - you are right. Forgot that I am spamming for all in the list... like now :(
Lets get back to topic: I am colunteering to be a beta tester. I need this module for the same reason as 90% of us - to make forum replies the same type as forum nodes.
Not related to this module: Will try some kind of workaround with Conditional Fields module.

tcibah commentedSorry to reopen this old thread..
This is for a relatively mid-size D6 site with about 50k “nodecomment'
nodes, many multi level, with media fields. They are used as comments on
around 30k nodes of a specific node type.
The lack of nodecomment D7 module upgrade or equivalent is delaying our
move to upgrade site to D7.
Please advise on possible solutions using entities or other techniques that will preserve comment threading and
fields.
If there are scripts available, we are ready to consider using that, and
will compensate authors; or co-sponsor a new module. My understanding is that porting NC to D7 is not a recommended solution
long term.

smartsystems160 commentedJUst a note: This module is important for Question and Answer sites that want to implement sites similar to stackexchange.com and the rest, so that comments can also be made on comment nodes.

playfulwolf commentedI had 1 project with complex Drupal based forum/og - so this module is essential to forum magic

Leeteq commentedFor some scenarios, meanwhile, the comment_mover module may be interesting.

henke001 commentedDid anyone ever figure out how to get out of Node Comments 3 (no conversion tool for version 3)? I have a Drupal 6 forum with 70k+ node comments I have to move to Drupal 8 and since we can't convert Node Comments 3 back to regular comments we can't migrate to Drupal 7 or 8.
