I have a vocabulary where I use taxonomy access control so that certain roles can only create nodes using a particular term. I want to extend that functionality so that the taxonomy access control works on nodes that reference those nodes. I thought that this would allow me to accomplish this, but it doesn't seem to work. Has anyone had success using this with taxonomy access control? Thanks.

In the past, I have considered the TAC module. I did not use it in favour of https://drupal.org/project/abt.
I did not like the fact that content creators need to create content, and set access grants afterwards.
With ABT, the content creator can set the terms, and the terms themselves determine who have access the content.

As for you request "certain roles can only create nodes using a particular term".
Using a EntityReference field, and not a Term reference field, you can create views that show the allowed terms.
You may find some contrib TermReference modules that do the same. Search for "Term reference Views" and "Term reference Tree".
