Are there any plans to support multi-level node access node reference support?

I have a situation where I have "Collections", that contain "Sources" (referencing collections with node reference), that contain "Citations" (referencing sources with node reference).

Node reference node access works find for viewing Citations based on the Source node access, or viewing Sources based on Collections node access.

But what would be great would be to set the node access for a Collection, and have it work for not only the child Sources, but for the child Sources' child Citations.

Any plans for this enhancement?

If not, can you point me to the place in the node access node reference code where the enhancement would best be added, so I can tackle it myself?

Yeah chaining is meant to be possible, but have heard there's issues with it.
Once the enhancements from this issue are added in this should definitely be possible #1067100: Passing view access to users that have update and/or delete access
