Quite often, there is a need to update the 'parent' node of a series. However, these changes are not automatically picked up by the 'child' nodes in the series. It would be great to be able to refresh all nodes in the series with such changes

Agreed, but that should be optional, as you might want to keep some changes that were made to the children.
It almost would need to be on a field-by-field basis.
