What would you plan to do as a maintainer?

Keyral also proposed to help, as I really don't have much time I suggest that you could talk together to see what you can do.

The module needs an entire rewrite.

You may start a 2.x branch from scratch taking advantage of the CTools plugin system instead of having submodules.
You might also merge node_limit_role and node_limit_userofrole to avoid confusion.

I give you both the right to commit on GIT. Create your banches, make a few commits and I will unlock you the other permissions.
