Turn off modal functionality using JQuery (for mobile devices)

How can I turn off modal form functionality using JQuery code? I just don't want to show the popup for smaller screens. I tried to remove all the classes from "a" element, but it didn't work. Dirty workaround is to change href location, but popup still opens and later browser loads a new page... Can anybody help me?
