Accessing device type from PHP, i.e. page.tpl

First off, top-notch module!

Is there an externally-available variable that indicates what type of device is being browsed with? I have multiple device types (iPhones and Blackberries) being redirected to the same theme, but I'd like to edit the page.tpl.php within that theme to make a certain group of content only appear to Blackberry users. I'm thinking a variable that gives whatever group the phone fell under from admin/settings/mobile-tools/themes. Ideally this would work around having to use WURFL and going through a large list of possibilities.
