norwegian.blue commentedI don't think it's a stupid question.
There are versions for D7 in "Releases" (link at bottom of project page) but none of them seem to be stable or actually working well enough to be used on a live site.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and there is a D7 version that's safe for production use.

kristin.e commentedsubscribing.
was in process of using version 3, had to get onto other parts of the desktop layout and when I came back to mobile tools for D7 - saw the message about it not being stable enough to use on production site. I can't go on with developing the site for mobile devices now :(
are there any other suggestions for modules that allow you to use a different theme for mobile layout?
minoroffense commentedWe're working hard on the D7 release. Right now we have the CTools context and Context integration along with PURL working.
That means, you can change some aspects of your site depending on the URL (using a path, sub path, subdomain or domain).
We're debuggint the CTools exportable feature right now and finishing up the admin page to allow users to create device groups.
Right after that we're going to finish the theme switching component (i.e. the integration with ThemeKey).
Hopefully there'll be a dev release to test out this week but I can't promise anything right now.
Thanks for your patience!

anibal commentedHi,
Any plans to the integration with browscap like we had in the 7.2 version?
Your module is really unique to the integration with context and mobile devices..keep the good work.
Best regards
Aníbal

kristin.e commentedDoes this mean 7.3 now available for D7? When can we download this version? Thanks for all the hard work :)
minoroffense commentedYes Browscap is being integrated at the moment. Aaron Wolfe (http://drupal.org/user/277371) is helping us with that now.
For those feeling particularly adventurous, you can try the 7.x-3.x branch for dev purposes only.
The KNOWN_ISSUES.txt file lists everything that doesn't work at the moment. Here's a brief look at what does (a.k.a. should ;-) work right now.
Create 'Device Groups' in admin/config/system/mobile-tools
Go to Purl settings and configure how you want your URL scheme to work (suggest using path or subdomain for now)
Enable Mobile Tools Context to allow Context module to trigger changes on active device groups
Enable Panels to try out the CTools access plugin for active device groups.
You can also manually configure ThemeKey to switch themes given an active Purl modifer. Eventually this will be done automatically when you select a theme from the device group admin (waiting on some help with that integration).
The big thing that needs testing right now is the use of PURL with the device groups as well as the context and ctools integrations. There are some test cases already written but more are needed. Feel free to post to the issue queue and claim a particular test to write.
I'm hoping to have some device detection/redirection soon. I'm working to have the base set of features ready for mid-July. But I really want to get a solid set of test cases in play as well to make managing the module simpler. There are a lot of contrib APIs in use (a lot of which aren't at a full release yet) so to keep up with those changes I'll need lots of tests.
More to come.

anibal commentedI have a setup with d7 and mobile tools 7.3.dev, and i'll test it and will post all the issues i find, regarding android and ipad redirects.
I'm also using context to display different panels (mini-blocks) if you are using a desktop or mobile device.
minoroffense commentedJust a note for everyone who wants to try the code
1) Use the latest dev release for Purl
2) Use the latest dev release for CTools
3) Enable the Context UI to setup to create you context (look for the condition "device group")
If you're running an older version of Purl and you update, you'll have to reinstall Mobile Tools for everything to work. I don't know why at the moment but that's just the way it is (probably something to do with the module weight which we'd have to set during install)
Thanks
Comment #12
minoroffense commentedRedirection doesn't work yet so don't bother testing. Once browscap is integrated, we'll enable redirection. It's a feature which needs a surprising amount of thought to do right and avoid frustrating the user and the web server.
anibal commentedOk, thanks for the warning.
minoroffense commentedThe last commit from today added support for Entity build modes for each device group.
Go to admin/config/system/mobile-tools/settings to enable the build modes. Then, from the Field UI, under manage display, you should see the list of device groups.
This is brand new so please test.
Thanks

Wolfgang Reszel commentedAre there alternatives for this module? You still say DO NOT USE 7.x-3.x ON PRODUCTION SITES.
I would like to have a normal non-responsive website to behave like an Web App on iOS devices. I thought using jQuery Mobile for that purpose.
LTech commentedI have the same question - I would like to create a Dynamic Serving Website on drupal 7. Is it same to use the dev version on a production site? If not what other module options can I use?
Thanks
Comment #18
Poieo commentedI've been using an old mobile_tools 7.x-2.0-unstable1 release and haven't had any major issues. I think there may be some patches I applied so I'm attaching my version here.
According to the project page this is seeking a new maintainer and will have no further development so I'm marking this as closed (won't fix).
