I have a relatively simple migration that migrates a huge (2 million) nodes into eck based entities.

On a testing server, the migration is getting a throughput of about 4600 records per minute.
On the production server, the migration is running at about 360 per minute.
I'm using the same version of drush as the import method for both.

There are certainly some differences between the two environments, some minor differences in PHP version maybe, etc, but nothing that sticks out as glaringly obvious to me, like a major difference in resources or processing power. I'm sure there's something in the configuration that must be big enough to make this kind of difference.

What are some good starting points or tips for identifying the big performance difference here?

Sorry, I hadn't come across guide here: https://www.drupal.org/node/2136603 which is pretty solid.
I've done a lot of the recommendations already, but I'll go through it a little more deeply.
