Menu Placement replaces the menu settings of the content edit form with a widget that places content in one or more menus at once, each with its own link title and position.

  • A switch per menu: the main navigation and the footer, or the menus of several sites.
  • The position is shown as a breadcrumb, e.g. Main navigation › About us › Our team, and chosen by dragging the link in a dialog with the menu tree, or with the arrow buttons and keys. The order of the siblings is saved too.
  • The link title of a new link follows the content title until it is edited.
  • Switching a menu off removes the link when saving.

Requirements

Drupal 11.2 or later, with the core Menu UI, Custom Menu Links and Node modules.

Installation

Install as you would normally install a contributed Drupal module. See Installing Drupal Modules.

Configuration

  • The widget offers the Available menus of the content type (Structure › Content types › Edit › Menu settings). It replaces the standard menu settings on every content type; switch it off per content type with Use the menu placement widget in the same section.
  • Editors need the Administer menus and menu links permission, as for the standard menu settings.

Domain (submodule)

Menu Placement: Domain (menu_placement_domain) is for sites with the Domain and Domain Access modules:

  • The menus are grouped per domain. Menus of the domains that are not checked in Domain access are tucked away behind a toggle, and appear as soon as their domain is checked.
  • A menu belongs to a domain when an enabled menu block of the domain's theme shows it. The theme of a domain is its domain override of system.theme (Domain Config, Domain Theme Switch). Implement hook_menu_placement_domain_menus_alter() for other set-ups.
  • With Domain Path Pathauto, the alias of each domain follows the menu position on that domain.
