Will there be further work on the dev version for D6? It looks like a fantastic module and I would love to use it, but as I need to set up a production website right now going for D7 seems to risky. So in an ideal world I'd want to use Media on D6 until D7 is ready for us to make the move. However, after installing the D6 version, status update tells me that it is no longer supported.

Apologies, I have only now found #631944: D6 version? (I did check issues before posting, but only the open ones. So it appears we may not be able to use this module for D6. If that still is the case, what set-up should we select now so that we can easily switch to D7 and Media when they are ready?

Hi,

Thanks for posting. I don't know if there will be a supported D6 migration path unfortunately. Media will act as a full featured browser for your managed files, so simply having managed files, they will all be accessible through media. File fields, image fields, etc may or may not get an upgrade path, depends if someone wants to write it. I'm building it for a D7 original site, so I probably won't.

I do plan to create a migration path from filefield/imagefield and emfield, though no time table at this point. You should be safe using those modules in d6 (and the core file/image in d7), as there are a *lot* of devs and clients who will demand it soon enough.

btw, the emfield migration is in the works, in version 3 of the d6 module atm (though that branch is highly unstable atm).

filefield + imagefield migration is handled now w/ the patch at http://drupal.org/node/1166168 . emfield migration is in the d7 branch of emfield.
