I followed the instructions here https://www.drupal.org/node/2261003 on how to install. The main menu does not automatically appear, which seems like a good thing to do. Anyway, tried to following the instructions on the next page where it said, "If you want to use a Superfish menu under the top header enable it for the Menu bar region and turn of "Main menu" and "Secondary menu" in MAYO settings under TOGGLE DISPLAY. MAYO tries to fully support the Superfish module which has good support for responsive design."

First, I want it to work without superfish, is that possible?
Second, the main and secondary aren't under toggle.
Third, I manually added the main navigation block to the menu bar region but it loaded expanded (I have one parent/child menu item).
Fourth, when the menu loaded, it did not style like the example shown on the Mayo setting screen.

How do i resolve this issue without coding? It that possible?

I just resolved the third item by changing "Maximum number of menu levels to display" in the block configuration.

The README.txt and the online documentation have not been updated for Druplal 8. From the top of the README.txt

NOTICE: The following text if from version 7 and is in the process of being revised for Drupal 8 MAYO.

Seeing that you are using Drupal 8 from the issue here I would suggest you will have to search drupal.org for general drupal 8 theme install information.

Being so used to seeing D7 referenced, I overlooked the fact that is didn't say D8. So my bad. HOWEVER, the questions remain. Is the installation of a D8 theme completely different than in D4 thru D7? Is it standard practice now to not include the main menu? If there is a link to a page where there are universal instruction regarding D8 theme installation, I will be happy to read it.

Your fourth problem is presumably the same as #2815885: Menu-bartik take over Menu-mayo, which has received no responses, although in my brief experience with the Mayo theme is a major problem.

The preview in Mayo 8 settings does not reflect the main menu. Just never got around to making that part work.

I found the main menu tucked away in the footer. You can use the Block Configuration UI to move it to the Menubar Region "where it belongs."

Hi,
As i can see in Mayo 8 by default the menu block appears in footer region.
You can use Structure < Block Layout< And place the block in any region or where it belongs.
Hope it helps!!
