Mandrill has a feature that allows one to attach custom metadata to a sent message, documented here http://help.mandrill.com/entries/21786413-Using-Custom-Message-Metadata

This metadata can be included in search and comes back as part of the json delivered by webhooks.

I think this feature could be useful to be implemented, and I will be preparing a patch and posting here for your review.
