Trying to get Mailchimp working alongside CRM Core to send newsletters. However cannot get the Contact entities to sync with Mailchimp List. Here are the steps I've followed:

Install Mailchimp & libraries and enabled. This was a mystery as I assumed the most recent version of the module would use the most recent version of the library, but no, so I eventually got the v1.0.10 library working.

My list created at Mailchimp then becomes visible at admin/config/services/mailchimp/lists. I add a Mailchimp field to the Contact entity, with the correct list set. Default is checked.

I was then expecting the list to pick up all the contacts from the site, but nothing happens. Have tried running cron, clearing cache over and over, and editing and resaving contacts (not realistic for the number I have to get through, but it doesn't work anyway).

Then nothing. Mailchimp stubbornly refuses to pick up email addresses. Have I missed a step somewhere?

Also when I edit a Contact, I have tried unchecking the Mailchimp field and saving, to see if that does anything. However, when I open the entity up again, the field has magically re-checked itself. This is presumably not desired behaviour - how would I unsubscribe a user from a list in this case?

Clicking "Update Merge Values" now makes the site hang. I get the following errors in the log:

There are about 5 pages of these repeated errors. I've also tried downgrading to 7.4-x.11 with the same results. Changing category to Bug report.

I suspect this issue cause by handling of tokens in CRMCore. Selecting any of the fields in the dropdown to map to Mailchimp's email field causes the fatal error. Changing the token manually to anything non-CRMCore related, ie not stored on the Contact entity doesn't necessarily work, but doesn't crash the site either.

Workaround has been to create a new "Mailchimp Subscription" entity, with a relationship to each contact and Mailchimp subscription fields. Clunky but will do until a proper fix emerges.
