Hi geufroi.

Have you tried using Views exposed filters? That actually may be a better solution for what you are trying to accomplish. Search Lucene API is really good for textual searching, but this seems like you are wanting to narrow down nodes using a simple filters. In addition, Views may also be better for performance since you are not planning on doing complex matching.

If you still want to remove the Search Form, you will probably have to implement hook_form_alter() to strip it out. Looking at the core search module's code through which the search form is displayed, there doesn't seem to be another way to strip it out. This will probably get pretty tricky, and you would almost be better off implementing a separate page callback that only displays the search results.

In my opinion, Views would be a better solution here.

Thanks,
Chris

I agree with geufroi, that this is VERY annoying to see. On mine, I see a tab or button for "Content", "Help", "My Lucene Searched Book" and "Users." That's just wrong. There should be a setting somewhere to turn those other buttons/tabs off. Lucene is the search solution I need and these extra buttons/tabs are not pleasant at all.

I reply to both myself and ukrdrupal to part of my request.
Actually, I noticed that the 3 tabs [USERS], [HELP], [ma search name] are in fact only visible to admin, so that unregistered or none-admin registered users won't see this (what a relief !).

there is still the search form box which myself wouldn't mind getting rid off, but I understand is not esealy removable without hooking..

Thanks to both of you for comenting my issue.

ukrdrupal,

Thanks for posting. I think your problem with the extra tabs is actually an issue with the core Drupal search API, so unfortunately it is something outside of the scope of this module. D7 allows you to select which searches are enabled and disabled, so that may help going forward. Also, like geufroi mentioned, you only have access to the tabs you have permissions to see. Really important that testing is done as a non-admin, especially not as user 1. You will see a lot of extra stuff with a super-privileged user. Search Lucene API does have settings that allow you to "hide the core search" which will at least remove the content tab for you.

geufroi and ukrdrupal,

It may help if you bring up these ideas to the core Search module maintainer or the Search group on groups.drupal.org. You may get some better direction since these are more core Drupal requests, and I think it would be helpful if your ideas and concerns were shared there as well. We are always looking for the pain points of the core Search module, and I think your use cases would help shape the direction going forward. In addition, it may be worth joining the discussion surrounding the Search API module. This module may turn into the core Search API in the future, and it may gain some traction in D7.

Hope this helps some,
Chris

Marking as closed, since this is more of a core Drupal issue.
