Yes, the docs are fairly sparse, and the title of the module is somewhat misleading. To clarify, the module merely grabs all the "node links" (as defined by all implementations of http://api.drupal.org/api/function/hook_link/6), as well as any attached files (from Upload module) and publishes a block with a list of these as its content.

It does not extract inline links from the node content, only those links which usually appear underneath the node such as "Add new comment" etc.
