Follow-up to #1462194: Support for field widgets (Text, Link, Entity ref)
Not sure if I understood the above referenced issue right, but there should be a widget supporting the Entity reference field. The first comments there where all about giving priority to entity reference, or does it mean that one can just link to any entity (in text-fields). Entity reference has it's own Widget, but the widget of LinkIt is more beautiful and editors got already used to it in the wysiwyg dialog.
I cant get it work. I created a profile and set This profile will be used with to Fields but it does not show up in the widget type settings: 
Does it require a any additional configuration or is it simply not supported?

anonClosing this as 7.x-2.x is not developed any more and will soon not be maintained.

osopolarSorry, I should have filled this issue against 7.x-3.x as I am currently using version 7.x-3.4.

beltofteI have developed a small module that add integration to References (node and user reference) and Entity Reference (autocomplete only - not autocomplete tags). It is available at https://www.drupal.org/project/linkit_references.

anon@osopolar: Unfortunately Linkit does not provides you with a field widget in that way.
It can however alter some of the existing widgets for Text field, and Link field. The Entity reference support were never implemented tho.
That would be a feature request.
