I am trying to figure out how the LDAP authentication module works on the Drupal version 5.x.?

Thank you

Hmm... how much time do you have ? :)

In short -- the ldapauth.module enables Drupal to authenticate to LDAP/AD. You can configure Drupal to check its own database first for local users and then check AD/LDAP for remote users OR you can configure to check LDAP only. In both cases, the admin user (uid=1) is ALWAYS checked locally (a design decision I had made).

In either case, when checking LDAP, if a user is found in LDAP and is not present locally, the module will create a "stub" user in the drupal database so that it can store the profile info and all other information other drupal modules may provide. It tags that user as a LDAP User and subsequent logins will always check LDAP for authentication.

I know there is no documentation on this but I am hoping to put something out soon.
