We run drupal in a three stage setup with similar but not identical module configurations. the first stage worked fine without any errors. When updating the second from 7.x-2.2 to 7-x.2.3 I received the following fatal error running the update.php script

An unrecoverable error has occurred. You can find the error message below. It is advised to copy it to the clipboard for reference.

An AJAX HTTP error occurred. HTTP Result Code: 200 Debugging information follows. Path: https://xxx/update.php?op=selection&token=34EREnl4P2ZOdXi_0GgLiY9tcC5l6O... StatusText: parsererror ResponseText: Fatal error: Call to undefined function ldap_user_conf() in /xxx/docroot/sites/all/modules/ldap/ldap_user/ldap_user.install on line 531

The line is part of
function ldap_user_update_7206() {
$message = NULL;
$ldap_user_conf = ldap_user_conf('admin', TRUE);
..

After inspecting the code and some test I found out that on the second stage we have the LDAP User module disabled and thus the ldap_user_conf function was not available, but the ldap_user.install requires it. On the first stage it was enabled and therefore no errors.

Workaround: Enable the ldap user module, run update.php, disable ldap user module again.

Ah, interesting point, I did not know that you can run updates for disabled modules in 7.

I'm leaning towards not fixing this issue but presumably adding the following line in 7206 should fix it. I'd commit it to DEV but not issue a separate release if someone confirms it.

ldap_servers_module_load_include('php', 'ldap_user', 'LdapUserConf.class');
