Hello

I'd like to use LDAP-authentication with my Drupal site.
However, because only a very small group of my domain users will be a publisher on the website I want:

1) Create only those users in advance (and assign them to a predefined role) so that they can logon using their LDAP-credentials
2) The other domain-users (which were not manually created in step 1 should NOT be able to login

Is this possible with the current (or future) release of this module?
And if not, what's the best practice to achieve this?

Regards.

I tried to create the users manually in Drupal.
However, I can't leave the password field blank (because ldap-users will have to use their own ldap password).

How can I (manually) setup LDAP-users in Drupal so that only those users will use LDAP-authentication?

You can add a dummy password, as it will be overwritten when the user authenticates using their password on the LDAP server.

rbenhase is correct, a dummy password will do. However it will not be overwritten since the ldap password isn't stored. Just wanted to point this out since to avoid someone being alarmed at this.

Ah, yes, I guess my explanation was a little off-- sorry about that. At any rate, a dummy password is fine as users will use their LDAP password to authenticate.
