I was hoping this module would allow a user to have their chosen interface default language remembered so even before they log in, when they return to the site it is displayed in whatever language they have previously chosen (via editing their user account). However it doesn't appear to work for me (IE 8 and Firefox 28) and at least in Firefox (having flushed all the cookies first) it looks like its not setting a cookie at all.

I have the detection/selection order set to:

  1. Cookie
  2. User
  3. Interface

...with everything else disabled.

This module needs the URL detection method to be enabled. If it is not, the module sets the language variable to null and it doesn't work. I'm currently looking into this, but I'm just another affected user as you, so I won't probably find an elegant solution.

Commenting out lines 222-247 (the entire switch block) and adding this code just below did he trick for me:

$lang_param=@$_GET["language"];
  if($lang_param!=null){
        $lang=null;
        $lang->language=$lang_param;
  }

I'm using the language parameter to set the language, so you should adjust this accordingly if that's not exactly your case.

Yes that will probably not work, can you guys see if the 2.x-dev release fixes your issue?
