Integration - Content Access and ACL

If I'm putting this in the wrong place, then please forgive my lack of courtesy. I'm still getting used to the rules :-).

I'm using ( or I wanted to use) iPaper to display documents created in Word. They could be RTFs or PDFs, I suppose, but I started with Word. The documents are established as Pages for Books, although each document is in fact a Chapter.

Let's start with - it works. Which it does. However, my issue/ request/ desire relates to access control.

I don't want everybody to see every document. I'm using Control Access and ACL to facilitate Access Control down to the node level. What I've found is that unless I configure a Role to have iPaper access in the iPaper Module configuration, then neither that Role or any Users with that Role can see _any_ iPapers. However, if I do configure the Module to allow iPaper access, then it doesn't seem to matter what permissions I set on the node using Control Access/ ACL, that Role can access every iPaper document. So I either grant a Role access to all iPapers or none.

Is there any way round this, or is it likely this type of function/ control may be developed? I do understand and anticipate that the answer to both will be no. If that is the case, I'll just have to try to work out some other means for displaying the documents...
