When the "From email address" radio is set to "site" the message has a blank sender according to Hotmail and subsequently gets placed in Junk mail. Also, when the from address is set to "inviter", the invite form shows user_email@whatever.com but the message only shows the sender as user_email@whatever.com which seems inconsistent.
My site has both MimeMail and Send installed however I tried disabling them both and still have the same issue.

smk-ka commentedYou're using Drupal 5.0, not the latest 5.1, don't you? If so, please download the patch or checkout the latest version from CVS.

smk-ka commentedNew patch fixes also the bogus sender address displayed.

smk-ka commentedIt was in fact my fault, as I was relying on the API documentation of drupal_mail(), which includes changes to prevent emails looking like spam. But these changes are currently only available in CVS (ie. Drupal 5.2/4.7.7 when they're out), so I was coding ahead of time. Back to future comes to mind.... mea culpa.
I've just created hotfix releases 5.x-1.8A and 4.7.x-1.8 which contain as a goodie the changes to the email headers, as will be available in future Drupal versions. These changes to my knowledge should be a crucial step to avoid getting emails marked as spam.
