it may be a a file attachment issue in fact.
Ok this one seemed tricky to understand to me but I may have missed something in the PhP code since I am new to PHP
Correct me if I am wrong but the admin/settings/image is part of core drupal and allow to specify a directory under the directory to store images.
Being a bit obsessed by order I did so and asked my images to be stored under an subdirectory of the directory.
When attaching image the images are uploaded fine but the link displayed under the file name in the attachement box is wrong : it does not contains the aforementioned subdirectory
instead of sites/default/files/images/gemma- we have sites/default/files/01.jpg
Of course then the inline module display a nice image not found or sometimes a icon with a bad link depending of file weight.
The more I think about it the more it seems like a vicious bug inside the attachment module but it affects badly the inline module.
Can somebody confirm that ?
How can we work to have this resolved ?
It is not that much that I can't use the file directory as a big messy place for every kind of file (well I really do mind and it has security issues) but the fact that it indicate a bug that should be eradicated before people hard code around it.

Annakan commentedI investigated further and it is indeed a nasty interaction with the image module.
The strange thing is that deactivating all modules under the image group except "image" (where the subdirectory setting is set) make the aforementioned disappear, but the images are then uploaded as basic files under the /file directory.
I will try to pinpoint the exact module that intercept image upload and enforce the "image module setting directory" and try to understand why the result link is not correct.

sunI am unsure what you are trying to do here. Inline works with core's Upload module currently, but you are referring to the contributed Image module and its settings page?

Annakan commentedyes I think I have it wrong and that the image module is the "culprit".
There is a lack of consistency that I do not know how to handle between uploading any file, an image file, image as nodes, images not as node, input filters and editors that is driving me a bit mad. More importantly I do not see how to offer a consistent and pleasant user experience to users and effectively leverage the contributed work for this. I try to refrain the impulse to "do it myself" because, obviously, this would be inferior, and redundant but I would love drupal core to give more infrastructure to these point (upload handlers, attached content status, editors, containers ....) that really drag down the Drupal experience.
I am "still" learning , or to be more honest still in the "noob" phase so I may be way wrong on many things but my feelings must not be mine alone I suspect, and probably shared by a few or more Drupal "newbies" and end-users.

sunWell, yes, the available information about possible modules and use-cases is still a bit weak, and you might want to team-up with HansBKK who posted in Image Assist's queue.
Based on your last comment, I would suggest the following modules to you:
http://drupal.org/project/image
http://drupal.org/project/img_assist
http://drupal.org/project/wysiwyg (for TinyMCE integration)

HansBKK commentedHi Annakan (like your name, I named my son Anakin!)
I feel your pain, and suspect this area's a major hurdle for less technical users trying to use Drupal.
If you search on my user handle + "image" on drupal.org you'll see I've been making quite a pest of myself to the developers of image-related contrib modules.

One day (maybe Christmas) I hope to have a good newbies' overview of Drupal's various image handling methods ready to add to the Handbook - I've certainly learned a lot in the last month or so. . .
Better to continue the conversation in the Image group or a relevant forum rather than module-specific issue queues. Feel free to email me a link to your post and I'll respond there.
