On my system Mac OS X 10.6.2 Safari 4.0.3 I installed Multiple Image Upload on our drupal D6.14 site and enabled the module. The applet ran but as soon as I tried to drag image files to it, Safari would hang with the spinning beach ball. I had to force quit Safari. Same happened on second attempt.

Safari 4.04 on Mac 10.5 it seemed to work. It's using Java Version 1.5.0_22 from Apple Inc.

Try something like http://javatester.org/version.html to test it out.
