I have a large number of images per node, and I only want to display 9 at a time while viewing the node. Has anyone paginated their imagefield attachments in that kind of scenario, or have an idea on how it might be done?

I can't have each image created as a node, needs to stay as imagefields, so I guess doing it through views is out.

You can also use Views and make that view take an argument for the NID, then use it to display a list of all that single node's images.
