I am using image module for my image gallery

I have some different terms for my categories which for image gallery. I found the image module will store all the images in the same folder no matter how many terms you have .

But that's not a good way to manage the images, How can I put images in different folder which based on the different terms?

Thank you.

But what is happening if a image has multiple terms? Which term should be used then? It might be an option storing the images in folders based on the date (year or year+month) the image was taken.

I am not a programmer, so I can only give theoretical thoughts from my point as photographer. One option would be using the EXIF date or upload date (if possible at all) for creating folders. Another option would be setting up different upload folders manually (which can have individual names then) through the admin and let the uploader choose each time which folder should be used for the uploaded images. That way it would be possible having different subfolders and specify them according your needs.

I used Exhibit Engine in the past, a pure photo gallery script where it is possible setting up as many image directories as you need. But due to some reasons I deceided to switch to Drupal and would be more than happy if there was a possibilty to set up different image folders there as well.

But why should this be a problem that all images are in the same folder? After all, images are managed by Drupal (image), so there's no need to have a overlook of the images in the folder, isn't it?
On the other hand, you're right having different directories because some filesystems (on servers) can only handle a certain number of files per directory. If it exceeds, there will be massive performance problems.

Perhaps, we should create a new folder per month or year, this seems to be a solution to me. But I don't think so that's a good idea to let the user choose a suitable directory, so what are taxonomies for?!

The problem with a single folder for all images is, the web server will crash and burn once you hit a couple thousand images (+ derivatives).

There are several solutions in the works; go give the 103793 one a test run. Note, no new features will go into 5.x-1.9; drewish said that he's accepting new features for 6.x-whatever first, then 5.x-2-whatever.
