I had an issue with the folders not having the correct permissions. It seems the group owner is not correct and I can't make permission changes through my ftp client. Here is the message to my server support ($100/month just for the support) $3,000 a year for this server! *MAD

Dear Customer,

"Thank you for contacting Assisted Server Support.

I have reset the permissions of the /var/www/vhosts/testsite.com/httpdocs/files to the default domain user and group. If you foresee this happening quite often, we can set up a Cron job to run at a scheduled time to correct these permissions. However, this would fall under the custom support fee of $49.99 per half hour. This task would only take 30 minutes to set up. If you approve of this work, please respond to this email with your approval and the last four digits of a payment method on which to apply the fee.

Please contact us if you have any further issues.

Sincerely,

Assisted Server Support

MY REPLY:

"So, I am paying over three thousand dollars a year for the server, the upgrades and an additional fees for assisted server support and I can't make a change as simple as group permissions without paying addition fees? This is rather disappointing..."

THEIR REPLY:
"If software or scripts are creating group permissions inaccessible by your user, you will not be able to change owners / permissions. Scripts can be coded to avoid this issue, however, we do not provide coding analysis, instruction or support. However, we can create a cron job to regularly correct permissions so you do not have to contact us each time there is an issue. Access to change permissions outside of your user is not available on the assisted plan as you do not have administrative access."

Other than just switching servers or paying the $49 fee, any suggestions?

It seems that since I have "assisted server support" with my hosting company, I am limited to the default administrator directory "apache". Is there a way to change the image module script so I can set the group owner as something else?

i'm not sure how this is image module related? ask your hosting company how they recommend that you change file permissions. if they can't tell you how to do it yourself and you're paying that much i'd change providers.

They won't let me change the file permissions because I have restricted access. (covering themselves). They said the module script is making the default owner "apache" and not me.

They can set up cron job to take care of this, but it will cost $50.00. ARGH...

do you really have to be the owner of the files? if so either pay the $50 or find afind a host that has the webserver run as your user account...
