i've been modifying the image modules since the beginning because I need personal images to show in shared galleries (i.e. show personal images both in personal and in shared galleries).
i've added a new config variable "image_personal_shared" accessible through the config page (it can be either "show" or "hide"), a new helper function "_image_personal_shared" (which i use to add "AND i.personal=0" or " " to the SQL query).

Good idea! This gets a +1 from me.

But the text under the Personal select-box when creating or modifying an image is confusing:

A personal image can (only) be seen in the user's image gallery.

How about this?

A personal image can be seen in your personal gallery. Depending on the site's settings, the image may or may not appear in the shared gallery.
