How can I create Bilingual Blocks? [#39455]

I understand this is a Hot Topic!

I've read tons of documentation but still haven't found an easy way of having specific blocks (e.g. of german content) shown when a language (e.g. german) is selected by a user.

I tried to create blocks with localised content and show them and only them only in 'de/*' pages, using the 'Show on only the listed pages.' option. The problem is that it doesnt work.

Can anyone give me an easy to understand advice?

Not easy to understand (in fact I've been told that my solution might be a bit too complex :-D), but I managed to do it using flexinode, i18n.module and home made custom blocks (php).

I have a multilanguage (bilingual) site with in the sidebar on the homepage some actual links, and in the sidebar on the other pages some portfolio links. For your imagination, you can see the site here:

www.newoceans.nl/nl (dutch version)
www.newoceans.nl/en-local (english version)

The way I managed to do this can be found in this post: http://drupal.org/node/37118. Hope it helps. But as said before, it's not easy to understand, and probably way too complex...
