Pardon me for being dumb (and I really do!) but I just don't get it, how is this supposed to work?

I do not see any documentation or even some sort of explanation and yet some modules and themes suggest its' usage.

Questions:

  1. Are there some changes in theme/site behaviour by just enabling this module?
  2. ..or is it just API that is supposed to be used by our module/theme in order to get HTML5?

However brief, that would help as much as having a page of documentation somewhere.

The easiest way to see this module at work is to enable it and create a form. You'll notice that many of the form elements (like number for example) use the appropriate HTML5 tags.

There is no configuration. There are other changes that this module makes but that is an obvious example.
