3) Add a tid column to the users.table and create the table 'groups_term_user' by using groups.mysql/groups.mssql. You may want to add table prefixes!

4) install and configure groups.module
you should first go to adminiser/configuration/modules/groups and then to admin/accounts/permissions. Your anonymous users group should be the root of the taxonomy hierarchy.
