Is thi feature being addressed in 4.5 core? I'm new here and deciding whether to devote my site to Drupal. It doesn't look like things are happening here that will enable me to make sections of the site available to only certain groups of users, but perhaps work is happening elsewhere.

I am fairly confident that a similar functionality will be available as a contrib module for Drupal 4.5. The API is in the core and there are working solutions that need a bit more polish here:

The nodeperm_taxonomy.module works similar to groups.module.

I also intend to update groups.module to use the core API but that will not be too soon.
