keesee commentedI suggest using views to take you the rest of the way. How is the data being stored?
Anonymous (not verified) commented@CorpX: In the end that's exactly what I did, use Views. As for storing the data I created a custom node type and then use Feeds to load the data and create the nodes. Unfortunately Feeds doesn't do CCK Location fields so I had to write a custom script to insert the location data.
Unfortunately I've had to put development on hold for now since I've run into a performance issue. I'd like to have a map with hundreds of markers but GMap freezes the browser of their are too many markers ... so I need to find a way to limit the number of markers displayed. Preferably I would like to display no markers until the map is zoomed in enough to show <500 markers. (That being said even at 50 markers, GMap will croak ...)

keesee commentedInteresting. I'll take a look at the feed module. I plan to begin a personal project where I'd like users to be able to upload GPX tracks and see them mapped. I'd also like location and views integration allowing users to search for tracks using the location proximity searches and be able to use views to display lists and map tracks.
As to the errors and performance, GMAP offers a number of tools that allow you to limit points displayed, group them etc.
Can you share your custom mods? Would like to collaborate.
thanks,
J.

Anonymous (not verified) commented@Corpx: Always happy to share. Send me an email and let's see if I have anything that interests you. I'm relatively new to Drupal however and have just patched together scripts that work, but not a proper module.
lilou commentedYou can use http://drupal.org/project/trackfield for that.
keesee commentedTrackfield, to my knowedge, don't do half of what I listed above. I bothers me that it uses upload or a text field and it doesn't integrate with views. I'll check it out though.
totsubo,
I'll be in touch. Expect to hear from me sometime next week.
