I just wanted to share that I found drupal.org/project/smart_ip which is a good alternative to this module that doesn't seem like it has been updated in quite awhile.

Yes, I agree the maintainer seems very busy. Thank you for sharing about smart ip, it looks like nice promising module.

The GeoUser module shouldn't be used anymore. It has not been updated for years, the database needs to be updated manually, and the preconfigured data for Yahoo maps do not work anymore. The mentioned Smart IP is much more up to date, and it offers a migration path to D7.
