Is there ANY way to make them work together in Drupal 5.x? Suggestions are appreciated. Even understanding why they do not would be helpful. Thanks!

Could you be more specific with what you want? This kind of question might better be asked in the Forums.

EDIT: Moved to Head because any code change would be in 6.x-3.x or later... without a patch.
