This module has been released with lots or errors, it looks like the guy who "designed" it is not a programmer or just a rookie. However it´s extremely dangerous to use since it has a big lack of programming structure, another proof that it has been designed by someone who doesn´t know how to program.
From the very beginning since the moment I installed this module it didn´t work.
First problem, it didn´t appear at all. So I did some changes and additions and then it worked.
Second, users other than the admin cannot add or edit fotonotes, making it completely useless for community sites.
Third, the access permissions are completely obsolete, they don´t do anything and are not used, in other words they´re decorative.
Fourth, once you added a fotonote it will remain there forever. It can´t be neither edited nor deleted; it´ll remain there forever.
Fifth and most important, no support at all, this module seems to be abandoned and should be taken away or a Drupal note should advise users to stay away from this module since it is not secure at all.
Fortunately, I´m a good programmer and found many of the solutions to this problem (after lots of changes in the code) but it´s really frustrating since the point of a CMS is to accelerate the times you´d spend designing a site from scratch. With fotonotes this is not accomplished.

natehill commentedIs there another (better supported) project like this out there? I'd love to use something like this on my site.

Scott J commentedI haven't tried it, but you could look at Image Annotate.
