Currently using forward and 8.5.3 core/migrate, you get errors like this:

exception 'Drupal\migrate\Plugin\Exception\BadPluginDefinitionException' with message 'The forward_log plugin must define the source_module property.' in /.../core/modules/migrate_drupal/src/MigrationPluginManager.php:104
