Hi there
My users are uploading files with special chars in it -> like for example jööö.txt. For several reasons this is bad:
- You never know what the server does with it
- When downloading the file, IE screws up the filename

it would be nice if it would just rename those special chars, for example:
- " " => "_"
- "ö" => "o"

and so on. Maybe this is not a filefield issue, but a core issue?

Yes, use transliteration. That's why its the first listed module under "Recommended modules" on the project page and recommended in the README.txt.
