I installed the module Fetchgals 6.x-1.1 and along with it, the perl file Filesys::Df, as per the module's instructions. I put the Fetchgals module folder in: sites/all/modules, and the same such folder in the directory sites/all/libraries, which was also indicated in the instructions. I also enabled all the permissions on all the Fetchgals files in both the modules and libraries directories. My problem is that in the administer-->site building-->modules section, I cannot enable the Fetchgals module, as the box won't allow checking and is in light gray only. Under the description, I get the message: Depends on: Libraries (missing), with "missing" in red. I then installed the Library module in the directory sites/all/modules and enabled it. Still, the problem with the Fetchgals module persists. I remain unable to enable the module and still receive the message: Depends on: Libraries (missing).
Thank you very much for any tips you can suggest. I really appreciate it.

stevenpn commentedI have since solved the problem (partially at least). A user (dsdeiz) on #drupal chat suggested I install the module Libaries API. After installing that, I could enable the Fetchgals module on the module page of site building. I am currently getting another error, namely:
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'sites/all/modules/fetchgals/includes/admin.inc' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/mysite/public_html/includes/menu.inc on line 346
but the aforementioned error has been resolved, it would seem.

pobster commentedYou haven't *solved* anything, what you've done is tried to run before you can walk!
Here's some general Drupal module installing advice, it'll hopefully make things a bit clearer in your Drupal journey.
The INSTALL file doesn't tell you to move any files from the module folder, it tells you to install the fetchgals package - fetchgals 5.6 (downloaded from http://fetchgals.sourceforge.net), just do this and everything will be fine.

stevenpn commentedThanks for getting back to me, Pobster, and so promptly. Yes, just learning to walk, and perhaps I'm actually trying to drive a Ferrari, not merely run. Still, based on the disparity of feedback I got from the users on the support board and in chat, I think some elaboration on the instructions may be necessary.
Never did I remove any files from the Fetchgals folder, nor deviate from the prescribed order of operations as per the instruction file, yet I am still receiving the messages I wrote about earlier. I tried disabling, uninstalling, and deleting all the Fetchgals materials and reinstalling them, but still get the following messages:
warning: require_once(sites/all/modules/fetchgals/includes/view.inc) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mysite/public_html/includes/menu.inc on line 346.
and
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'sites/all/modules/fetchgals/includes/view.inc' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/mysite/public_html/includes/menu.inc on line 346
and
The Fetchgals package is not installed correctly. Please consult the provided INSTALL.txt file for help.
Missing files: fetchgals.pl, findtgps.pl, tgps.
I don't know why it says those three files are missing; I see them in the Fetchgals and libraries folders.
In #drupal chat, two fellows were sure the module was broken and that I should take it up with the author. If the module is indeed working properly, could we get into the fine specifics of what may be going wrong on my end? I'm sure others will benefit from your insight into this topic.
Thank you again very much for your contribution of time and energy!

pobster commentedI'm trying to get you to help yourself here a little bit. The issue you're having is fundamental, ask yourself why you haven't got a file at /sites/all/modules/fetchgals/includes/view.inc - it's included in the module distribution?
I'm thinking that a general beginners mistake is to download a module and unzip it on their desktop, then move the .module file to their /modules folder and wonder why the module doesn't appear on /admin/build/modules (you've done this right? I read it on another of your posts) just unzip the module folder while you're in the /sites/all/modules/ folder. It contains all the files you need.

stevenpn commentedHi Pobster,
Indeed, I would distinctly prefer helping myself over being dependent on others, and only ask for advice when stranded in a cul de sac. The existing body of knowledge on the forum and google have proven insufficient to address my challenges with Fetchgals, leaving me no recourse but to come out and ask. It doesn't seem obvious to me that one must unzip the download in the module directory, or that Libraries API must be installed, but since none of that was specified in the rather Spartan text file, I take it those details are common knowledge and redundant to everyone else. In any case, I do hope my ignorance hasn't too inconvenienced you.
Happily, I feel like I'm getting warmer. I deleted all the Fetchgals files and uploaded the unzipped folder, unzipping it in the module and libraries directories, as you instructed. That did make a difference, as most of the messages I received before are now gone, but a few remain, such as:
The Fetchgals package is not installed correctly. Please consult the provided INSTALL.txt file for help.
Missing files: fetchgals.pl, findtgps.pl, tgps. [in the status report]
and:
warning: file_get_contents(sites/all/libraries/fetchgals/tgps) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mysite/public_html/sites/all/modules/fetchgals/includes/admin.inc on line 190.
and lastly:
warning: file_get_contents(sites/all/libraries/fetchgals/log) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mysite/public_html/sites/all/modules/fetchgals/includes/log.inc on line 25.
Without holding my hand (which I wouldn't care for anyway), could I get another hint or two on how to proceed? Certain files are said to be missing, the messages would indicate, but I can't imagine why they're not being found, as I see them.
Thank you for your time and contribution of knowledge to me and others who may face these problems down the line.

pobster commentedYeah admittedly the INSTALL file does assume a certain knowledge of Drupal but afraid you won't really find any modules which don't... Most will just direct you to the handbook without so much as an answer.
That sounds like you haven't downloaded the Fetchgals package from Sourceforge? Have you followed the link and done this? What do you have in your sites/all/libraries folder?

stevenpn commentedHi Pobster,
Thanks so much for your good advice and willingness to be of help where others often aren't. The installation seems to be OK for the most part at this point. The status report says Fetchgals is correctly installed. The only thing that has gotten me this positive of a result thusfar is to combine the files from the sourceforge page (http://sourceforge.net/projects/fetchgals/), clicking the green button there for the download, along with the files from Fetchgals 6.x-1.1 (from http://drupal.org/project/fetchgals under downloads). I noticed that the 5.6 folder contains the .pl files while the 6.x-1.1 does not. At the same time, the 5.6 folder does not contain the "includes" folder, but the 6.x-1.1 does. By combining the files from both the 5.6 and 6.x-1.1, all the necessary files seem to be there. I did try unzipping the 5.6 in the modules and libraries directly, but Fetchgals didn't show up in the module list. When I unzipped 6.x-1.1 in modules and libraries, the module showed up in the list, but was said to have installed incorrectly. Combining them seems to have averted both problems.
Now, however, when I click on Fetchgals Administration, I see a message in blue saying "A fetchgals process is currently running." When I click on "Find Galleries," I receive a pink message saying another process is running and to wait. The Fetchgals log displays a pink message saying:
warning: file_get_contents(sites/all/libraries/fetchgals/log) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mysite/public_html/sites/all/modules/fetchgals/includes/log.inc on line 25.
Thus, despite ostensibly correct installation, it appears something isn't quite working. I would think I would be able to click Find Galleries, but this other running process prevents me from being able to do that. Then, the Fetchgals log is suggesting that a file is missing. The log.inc is in the libraries directory. What does it seem like may be going on offhand?
Thanks again so much for your helpful guidance, Pobster.

pobster commentedFor the files, it's a matter of understanding. Drupal modules go into /sites/all/modules, external libraries (eg. GetID3, TinyMCE and Fetchgals - i.e. not Drupal code) generally goes into the /sites/all/libraries folder. There's no need to merge/ mix them together.
As for the errors, it's probably either permissions (does your webserver have write-access to the folders, log is written - it's nothing to do with the log.inc file, that's something else) else, it's because you haven't installed the Perl plugins correctly.
